Intro: Game Theme
Easter Island has always been a fascinating topic for us. Many of us have seen the incredibly interesting Mo’ai statues that the island is known for best. This popular place served as an inspiration for Gamomat’s slot. However, they opted to use the native name for the island: Rapa Nui! This game has access to a free spins round, during which two random reels turn Wild with each spin. On top of that, we have access to two distinct gamble bonuses.
We do like the background image in this release. We get hints of the scenic view you could probably get if you were at the island. Gaze out into the sea, and you see nothing but endless blue and the sky itself. A bit closer, you can see a volcano with suspicious smoke rising into the air. We also see vast swathes of the island covered in grass and other vegetation. All of this combined gives a great view, one we wish we could see more of! Some of the symbol designs look quite nice. Tortoises, birds, and penguins can all be found on the reels, making them seem livelier! That said, there are some icons which we are not big fans of. Playing card royals immediately come to mind.

How it Works
You play Wild Rapa Nui on a five-reel board with thirty paylines. Players can choose to play with ten, twenty or all thirty active at the same time. You cannot select any number of paylines other than those three, or go below ten paylines at once. Still, it counts towards things you need to consider when setting up your bet. Wins are formed by collecting three or more identical symbols in adjacent positions, starting with the leftmost reel. These winning combinations have to follow an active payline to grant their prize. The less paylines you have up, the smaller your odds of winning are. You can use the control panel to spin the reels, set up Auto Play, change the number of active paylines and your total bet. The blue button lets you look at the paytable, while the gear in the upper left corner opens the settings menu. You can wager between £0.10 and £18 on each spin.
Icon designs in this slot are a mixture of playing card royals and island-themed symbols. While we do not have anything against playing card royals, we do expect some effort to be put into them. Gamomat just dragged them in from their previous titles, meaning they do not fit the theme. Other icons include bird feathers, an Easter egg, a bird, a tortoise and a penguin. A Ma’oi statue serves as the Wild, while a shot of the island at sunset serves as a Scatter.
Find three, four or five Scatters to win ten, fifteen or twenty free spins, respectively. While free spins are being played, you will have two reels turn Wild with each spin. Different reels are chosen for each free spin. They are picked randomly, so you cannot plan their position ahead of time. You cannot activate additional free spins after triggering the initial special feature. To win more, you have to complete your existing bonus, and then activate them again from the main game.
After a win, you can choose to play the Card gamble. Your goal is to predict whether the face down card will be red or black. Guessing correctly doubles your wagered money, while picking wrong means you lose everything. You can press the split button to only play with half the wager. You can hit the split button multiple times to keep decreasing your wager.
The second available gamble is called the Ladder. Here, you need to time it so the highlighted area is above your current number. This helps you advance up the ladder, unlocking bigger wins. If you press the button while the highlighted area is beneath your number, you fall down the ladder. Reaching the bottom means you lose everything. You cannot play this gamble on big wins.
While we like the theme, we would like to see some minor improvements to symbol designs, animations and special features. The available bonus is nice, but it is just a free spins round with nothing else to keep you playing. If Gamomat hopes to draw in a bigger audience, it will need to offer additional special features and improve its visuals a little more.
