Intro: Game Theme
In a sprawling, forested area lies The Land of Heroes. Long ago, great warriors and magicians settled here after defeating destructive demons. Now, the call of adventure rings out once more. All that remains of the heroes is a wise old man, and a young woman ready to take up the mantle! While playing this slot, you can enjoy a free spins round during which extra Wilds are added to the reels. We also get not one but two different gamble options to increase our payouts!
The background image for this Gamomat game looks quite nice. The developer usually has a bad habit of masking too much of the view with the reels. Fortunately, that is not the case here. We can see just how huge this large forested area is. In the distance, we see hills and mountains, and a light mist that stops us from looking too far out. On top of a pretty background image, we are also treated to some lovely animations here and there. They help this release feel more alive; we just wish there were more of them! Some symbol designs also go a long way in immersing us in the theme the software provider is creating, while others do the exact opposite.

How it Works
You play The Land of Heroes on a five-reel board with twenty paylines. Unlike with most modern slots, the paylines here are flexible to a point. You can have ten or twenty paylines active. However, you cannot have any value between those two, nor can you have less than ten paylines active. Wins are formed by getting three or more matching icons to land in adjacent positions. All winning combinations have to start with the leftmost reel, and follow one of the currently active paylines. Like with previous Gamomat titles, the control panel is colour coded. Green indicates the Spin and Auto Play buttons. Orange highlights where we change the number of active paylines and our total bet. The purple button automatically plays the maximum bet, while blue opens a paytable. You can bet between £0.10 and £40 on each spin.
Symbol designs are a mixed bag. Some of them do look quite good, and come with impressive animations to boot. Unfortunately, playing card royals do not fall under this list. They are the same bright and colourful icons we have seen in all other games made by this software provider. If Gamomat plans to use them, they have to adjust them to fit the theme somehow. Other symbols include a lute, a shield, a sword, a raven and a girl. The old man serves as a Wild, while the magic mill is a Scatter.
Find three or more Scatters to win seven free spins. The number of Scatters you collect will not change the number of active extra turns. It is possible to win more free spins while existing ones are being played. You just need to find at least three Scatters while the special feature is active. Furthermore, each free spins round will transform up to four icons into Wilds. These Wilds serve an identical function to existing Wilds, giving you a greater chance of winning.
After winning a prize, you can choose to play one of two gambles. The Card gamble is quite simple. You have to guess the colour of the facedown card in front of you correctly. Pick the right colour and you double your prize. However, a wrong pick means you lose everything! You can play half of your winnings by pressing the half button. The button can be pressed multiple times.
In the Ladder gamble, you need to time your button press just right. The highlighted area will flip to be above and below your current win. If you press the button while its above, you advance further up the ladder to greater prizes. If you fall all the way to the bottom, you lose all your winnings. You can end the gamble early by pressing collect. This bonus cannot be played with big wins.
Punters looking for a heroic adventure can embark on Gamomat’s great journey! Just expect a few troubles during the trip. Better playing card royals and additional special features are the two main things we would like to see improved. If you can overlook these two flaws, then you will probably have a blast playing The Land of Heroes!
