Intro: Game Theme
What do you get when you combine an epic adventure with a Tron-esque theme? You get Neon Staxx, one of the most stylish slots ever created by NetEnt. The game launched in 2015 and is still played frequently by casual crowds. The reason why is obvious. It offers exciting special features like stacked symbols and a free spins round. Add frequent wins and a high RTP to the mix, and you have the recipe for an incredibly successful release!
Still, one of the first things you will pick up on are the amazing graphics. As we previously mentioned, its theme design borrows some core elements from Tron. There is neon as far as the eye can see! A grid made up of squares makes up all of the distant landscape! Even further in the distance, we can see trouble brewing. Lightning crashes against massive pillars that pierce the exotic purple-pink sky. The background image will change when a free spins round is activated! The surrounding blue landscape turns purple. Now, instead of seeing a digital landscape, we see the crystals the distant pillars in the background. Both images look cool, while giving you a bit of visual diversity.

How it Works
You play Neon Staxx on a five-reel board with 40 fixed paylines. As a result, players cannot turn individual paylines on or off to adjust their total bet. The only way to do that is to change your bet level and coin value, which effects the total bet. Wins are formed by find three or more matching icons next to one another, starting with the leftmost reel. Winning combinations must follow one of the currently active paylines in order to award their prize. The control panel looks fantastic. It is easy to use, and the colour scheme matches the slot’s theme. You can set up Auto Play, spin the reels, open the paytable and change your total bet. Players can also look at the help menu and open settings. You can wager anywhere between £0.20 and £100 on each spin.
One part of the visuals we did not touch on are symbol designs. In truth, we are not certain how we feel about them. Playing card royals are still the same colourful icons we are used to. The developers added a fresh coat of paint to make them mesh better with the theme. In our opinion, they should have gone for a heavier neon design. The symbols with unique artwork look gorgeous. We can see a snake, a raven, a panther and a lion drawn in stylised formats! A Wild is a golden circle with the pink word Wild in front of it. Meanwhile, the Scatter is a pink diamond in front of a green circle.
Each played round in this game has a chance of activating Super Staxx. Any symbol can become super stacked and it can land on any of the reels. All five reels have a number of adjacent positions that, for every new spin, are replaced randomly with one icon from the paytable. During free spins, this bonus is enhanced. Only animal icons and Wild symbols can be selected to be stacked symbols for the entire free spins round.
In order to activate free spins, punters need to collect at least three Scatters. Scatters can appear in any position on the reel. Three, four or five Scatters will award ten, fifteen or twenty free spins respectively. While it enhances the existing Wild Staxx bonus, it offers no other goodies to players. You cannot win additional free spins while the special feature is already active. Instead, you have to wait for the bonus to end before you can activate it once more.
We really like the design of this NetEnt release. You can see the artists spent a lot of time working hard to make this title look beautiful! Admiring the view is nice and all, but the core gameplay loop is what makes or breaks a slot. Neon Staxx heavily relies on its Wild Staxx bonus to make it fun and lucrative. The top prize you can win playing this game is 400x your total stake. Not a bad deal, considering it has a low-medium volatility and an RTP of 96.9%. If you prefer high variance titles with huge jackpots, this release will not change your mind. That said, if you are Neon Staxx’s target audience, you are in for a treat!
