As the years go by, slot games have drastically improved. They made good use of new technologies to create gorgeous games with interesting special features. Often, our nostalgia can make us think titles used to be better back in the day. To test this, we decided to check out an old Microgaming favourite called Couch Potato. With only a Wild as an available special feature, will this release have what it takes to win over a new generation of players?
We are going to lean towards no, and part of the answer is skin deep. The depicting of an actual lazy potato laying back and yawning on a couch is interesting, we will admit. That said, age has not been kind to this slot! The background image is completely static, with no interesting animations playing. In fact, the background is just a single colour, and it is barely visible at that! The reels and paytable take up most of the screen space. The paytable is permanently open. Symbol designs are a mixture of cherries, bars and lucky sevens. Very clearly inspired by classic games. That in itself should give you a good idea if you will like Couch Potato’s graphics or not. Now let’s delve deeper into this new Labslots review.
Couch Potato Slot Features
- RTP: 97,43%
- Betting Range: £0.25 – £15.00
- Max Win: £22,500.00

How it Works
You play this release on a three-reel board with one fixed payline. Yes, you have just one payline; the one running right through the middle of the reels! Wins are formed if enough matching icons appear in adjacent positions, starting with the leftmost reel. All winning combinations must occur on that one active payline, or else the cash prize will not be awarded to the punter. The control panel also shows its age. The core functionality remains the same. Click bet once to change the number of active coins, and increase or decrease the bet value using plus and minus buttons. This allows you to change your bet as you like! In addition, you can spin the reels, open the help menu or use a button to place a max bet. Click the Expert button to reveal the Auto Play option. You can bet between £0.25 and £15.00 on each spin.
If you like detailed symbol designs, you may not be a big fan of Couch Potato. The slot only has a few icons. These include cherries, bars, lucky sevens and the game logo. These symbols usually have multiple versions of themselves. We can see this with different recoloured bar and seven icons! Fortunately, it is possible to combine different symbols of the same kind to create a Any Bar or Any Seven win. It pays less than if you formed it with an identical set of symbols, but it gets the job done! This release’s logo serves as a Wild.
Couch Potato Bonus Rounds
Couch Potato only has one special feature, and that is its Wild. If a single Wild substitutes for a winning icon, it will pay 5x on top of the winning combination. If two Wilds are part of a winning combination, this payout increases to 25x on top of the winning combination! This only activates under the assumption that the Wilds are not the only two or three symbols on the reels! If that happens, they will pay a standard cash prize in accordance to the paytable.
While we would love to say that this slot still holds up, we simply cannot do that. It is not its fault, however. As we said, games have drastically improved in quality in the last couple of years. You would be hard pressed to find a release that does not offer two or three bonuses. In comparison, Couch Potato’s single special feature is not that exciting. The core gameplay loop is not all that impressive either. This is a high volatility classic slot. You will have to grind if you hope to get the biggest prize! Unless you want to indulge in a bit of nostalgia, we recommend skipping this game in favour of something more recently released.
