Intro: Game Theme
Venture back into the distant past! Far before the rise of Christianity and the fall of Rome. In those days existed an ancient kingdom, whose culture and religion fascinated many. The tales of ancient Egypt persisted to this day, where they make a favourite when it comes to slot themes. Even Big Time Gaming was unable to resist using it for their 2018 game titled Book of Gods. As the name implies, it borrows the by now quite familiar mechanic, but puts its own twist on the whole thing!
Despite seeing this setting a thousand times, the developers still managed to impress us. Their approach to ancient Egypt is honestly refreshing. It does not focus on sprawling deserts. Instead, a big body of water occupies most of your view. Behind the reels, you can see the pyramids, still shining bright thanks to the limestone they were built with. We also see a small hill, some of the landscape, and a beautiful blue sky. A few clouds add a bit of variety to the sky. Animations are not used frequently, but each one is obviously impactful. You may not notice the fact the small waves in the water. It also reflects the terrain above itself, which makes for a gorgeous view.

How it Works
You play this release on a five-reel board with 243 ways to win. There are no paylines, which means we cannot turn them on or off to change our wager. The only way to adjust your total bet is to change how much you stake on each spin. Wins are granted when you have at least three matching symbols next to one another. All winning combinations must start with the leftmost reel in order to award their cash prize to the player. The control panel is designed brilliantly. It does not take up much space, while still giving you all the controls you need. You can set up Auto Play, look at the paytable, change your bet and spin the reels. You can wager between £0.10 and £40 on each spin.
Icon designs are what really sold us on Book of Gods. The playing card royals do not have many decorations added to them. However, they were touched up just enough to blend in seamlessly with the theme. They mesh quite well with the more detailed and higher value god symbols. A closed book is a joint Wild-Scatter icon, while also being the highest value symbol. A golden coin with BTG written on it is the feature drop special icon, which lowers the cash requirement for buying a special feature.
With each spin, one playing card royal is chosen randomly to be the Cloning symbol. What icon was selected is displayed in the open book that is visible on the left side of the reels. After all wins are awarded, all instances of the Cloning symbol will fill the reels they are currently on. They follow the same rules for winning that standard icons do, so they are not always a guaranteed win.
Collect at least three joint Wild-Scatter symbols to win free spins. Three, four or five icons will reward you with fifteen, twenty or twenty-five extra turns, respectively. At the start of the bonus, one of the four deities is chosen to be the Cloning symbol. What god is selected is determined randomly. They remain the Cloning icon until free spins end. If you find three more Wild-Scatter symbols on the playing field, you can retrigger the bonus. This adds another deity as a Cloning icon on top of adding more free spins! After retriggering the bonus three times, all gods will be Cloning symbols. As a result, subsequent retriggers only award free spins.
Finally, if you are too impatient to trigger free spins manually, you can buy them using Feature Drop. It costs 80x your wager to purchase the special feature. The cost is lowered each time you pick up a Feature Drop icon. The price reduction only applies to your current wager.
Hats off to the developers. They really went all out to make an ancient Egypt slot that feels unique. In spite of a mountain of other games standing in their way, they succeeded! This release follows the Book formula, but puts its own twist on it. It makes Book of Gods stand out even more as a result! If you have been looking for a bit of variety, then this slot is definitely worth your time!
