Age of the Gods: God of Storms sailed into our hands in 2017, and quickly became one of the most popular online slots in the series! This time around, the game focuses on a less known deity, known as Aeolus. Though several characters with this name appear in Greek mythology, only one had power over the winds. He ruled over the island of Aeolia, which are close to modern-day Sicily. He appears in the Odyssey, aiding the crew with the wind to carry them home. As king of his own island, he has amassed great wealth. The luckiest players will be given a chance to take home part of it!
In many ways, this release is an upgrade over the titles that came before it. The background image is still Playtech’s favourite, depicting a beautiful city set in ancient Greece. This time, they included minor animations here and there to make it look pretty. Birds will occasionally fly across the screen. The water in the sea glimmers as the setting sun reflects from the surface. The banner atop one of the buildings gets moved about by the wind. It looks amazing! These smooth, minor animations do mean we do not see any on the reels themselves. Those are replaced with a glow effect that highlights each winning combination one by one.

How to Win in Age of the Gods God of Storms
You play Age of the Gods: God of Storms on a five-reel board with 25 paylines. Individual paylines can be turned on and off, allowing you to fine-tune your bets to your liking. Wins are formed by finding three or more identical symbols next to one another, starting with the leftmost reel. All winning combinations must follow one of the currently active paylines. The control panel used by Playtech remains mostly the same. We like the visual upgrade, which helps it fit in with the rest of the graphics better. All buttons also have different colours, making them easier to find. You can look at the paytable, adjust your wager, turn paylines on and off, set up Autoplay, use Turbo Mode and spin the reels. Punters can bet between £0.01 and £250.00 on every spin.
Icon designs in Age of the Gods God of Storms have seen a reshuffling as well. Playing card royals no longer try to mimic Greek letters. Instead, they look more like standard letters and numbers, with a cool bronze/gold paintjob. We are not sure we like the change. It looks nice, but some personality the slot had disappears as a result. Other icons include pottery, a sea monster, an archer, a swordswoman and a warrior. The game has two Wilds. A standard Wild made out of white marble that spells out Wild, and a Ship Wild, used to activate the sole special feature this release has.
When the ship Wild lands on the reels, it appears fully stacked. Covering an entire reel activates the Wild Wind re-spin bonus. You get a re-spin, with Aeolus appearing on the right side of the reels. He blows across the reels, pushing the ship one position to the left. Each time the ship is moved like this, the multiplier increases by one. There is nothing stopping you from getting multiple Wilds, which can extend the re-spin bonus. Sadly, the multiplier in Age of the Gods God of Storms is capped at 5x.
Alongside the Wild Wind re-spins, we also have the Jackpot bonus in Age of the Gods God of Storms. This special feature is activated randomly, and will open a special 5×4 grid. On the grid are twenty coins total. Clicking on one will flip it, revealing it to belong to one of the four progressive jackpots. Each jackpot has its own colour. Green for the smallest, blue for the Extra Power, pink for the Super Power and red for the Ultimate Power jackpot. You win a jackpot by collecting three coins and filling the bar on the right. The first bar to be filled up is the progressive jackpot you win.
The Verdict & RTP
It might have taken a few slots, but Age of the Gods: God of Storms solved many of the issues we had with previous entries. The animations, which were the biggest issue with Playtech’s visuals, were finally fixed. The RTP is also above the current industry average at 96.14%, which we really like! The core experience of this game series was not impacted in any way. It was a major step forward for the developer, and one that players richly rewarded. This release remains popular on UK slot sites to this day, so we from Labslots have no qualms about wholeheartedly recommending it!
